Welcome to our Website

This website is designed to provide information on some of the many people buried at St Mark's Church in Worsley, Greater Manchester and also the history of the church itself and the surrounding area.

The Foundation Stone for St Mark's was laid on the 15th June 1844 and the graveyard holds a wealth of stories spanning nearly 180 years. All research and information published on this site is courtesy of local author and historian Paul Speakman.

We have recently added the National Archives files for three WW1 casualties buried at St Mark's. Please click the below links to access them.

A new Media section has also been added. In this section you will find the Bridgewater Waltz, a piece of music written by Thomas T Smith (1835-1912) of Rock house, Worsley and dedicated to staff of the Bridgewater Estate. The music and video is played and edited by Jeff Ramsdale, Director of Music at St Mark's Church, Worsley.

Also in the Media section is an episode from the 1979 BBC series 'Discovering English Churches' narrated by Donald Sinden. In this episode he visits St Mark's, Worsley and All Souls, Haley Hill, Halifax.
